November 21, 2012 - Wrightwood-Phelan Search & Tracking Accreditation

On Nov. 18, 2012 Wrightwood SAR successfully completed their MRA accreditation in Search and Tracking.

The test area was in the San Bernardino National forest around Cajon Pass. Three separate scenarios were presented to the Wrightwood Team:

1. A search scenario with medical
2. An ELT search
3. A Grid Search.

September 15, 2012 - Region Meeting

The meeting of the California Region of the MRA was held on September 14, 2012. Malibu Mountain Rescue Team hosted the meeting at their Lost Hills station. Sixteen teams from the region were represented. The meeting was scheduled to start one hour later at 1000 hours to accommodate some of the distant teams to leave later in the morning. Members of the Monterey County Sheriffs Search and Rescue flew into Van Nuys Airport. The meeting last just over two hours.

June 10, 2012 - Two Teams Added to the California Region

The California Region of the Mountain Rescue Association expanded to 31 teams and agencies with the approval of the Fresno County Sheriff's Search and Rescue Mountaineering Team and the San Bernardino Mountain Search and Rescue Team to become associate members of the MRA.

The Fresno County team was formed in 1982. Their area covers the San Joaquin Valley and the western Sierras. They have over 60 members. Monterey County and Sierra Madre have offered to be their host teams.

April 14, 2012 - Douglas County Snow and Ice Accreditation

DCSSAR SNOW & ICE ACCREDTATION REPORT 4-14-2012

On Sat April 14 Douglas County SAR tested in the Snow and Ice discipline at Echo Summit, El Dorado County, California, in the El Dorado National Forest at 7000 to 8000’ of elevation on a North aspect.

The scenario started with an informant contacting DCSSAR with limited information about two newly met friends overdue from a day trip into the mountains. The informant had GPS coordinates indicating the LKP. DCSSAR deployed 3 field teams.
